Building

Refurbishment

Breathing new life into a modernist icon

The Typewriter Building is a carefully considered restoration of a Richard Siefert building purpose-built for the Typewriter Company in the 1950s. Redesigned by Cowie Montegomery Architects, the scheme included a 9,960 sq ft 5 storey extension to the rear, a new first floor, and a new facade facing Borough High Street. Internally the works included new MEPH installations and a new lift & WC Core. W.RE secured a pre-let for the whole building to Worklife who took possession at Practical completion for fit out.

The building includes a bio solar roof, winter garden and roof terraces, 42 cycle storage spaces and are targeting net zero carbon and BREEAM Excellent rating. In construction, the building reused the existing substructure, and no operation waste was sent to landfill.
